Online dual vocational training:

In accordance with Organic Law 3/2022, a number of significant changes will be introduced to the vocational training system in Spain from the 2024–25 academic year onwards 

• Virtual DUAL Methodology: Students undertaking distance-learning vocational training will complete their work placements in a single 500-hour period during the second year. They will be eligible to undertake these placements once they have passed 30 per cent of the vocational modules and received a favourable assessment from the teaching staff.

To complement your training in oral hygiene, you will be able to enrol on the Radiodiagnostic Equipment Operator Course, a qualification that is particularly relevant for working in dental clinics where radiological examinations are carried out.

During this course, you will gain knowledge of dental radiology, radiation protection, applicable regulations and safety protocols, developing skills that are highly valued in the dental sector. Please check with your advisor regarding the entry requirements and how to obtain this accreditation.

The Workplace Training Phase (FFE) forms part of the official curriculum for the Higher Technical Diploma in Oral Hygiene and enables students to apply the knowledge they have acquired in a real professional setting.

During this period, you will develop skills relating to oral prevention, patient care, clinical support for dentists, dental practice management and the promotion of good oral health habits.

Our students will have the opportunity to undertake work placements at leading clinics, such as the Sanitas Dental Clinics, amongst others, to gain professional experience and apply the knowledge acquired during their training. In addition, at our UAX Clinics – the university’s own clinics – students will be able to undertake in-person placements, learning with real patients.

You can access this Higher Level Training Cycle if:

• You are 18 years old or you turn 18 in the year in which the training course begins.
• You are over 16 years old and you are registered as a worker, you are a high-level sportsperson or you have an illness, physical difficulty or dependence that prevents you from attending the training cycle in person.

In addition, you must have at least one of the following academic qualifications:

• Baccalaureate (LOE or LOGSE).
• Specialist Technician or Higher Vocational Training Technician Degree.
• Intermediate Vocational Training Technician's Degree
• Training Cycle or Intermediate Degree
• University Degree
• COU or Pre-university Certificate
• Document that proves that you have passed the 2nd year of any modality of the experimental Baccalaureate.
• Certificate of successful completion of the entrance exams to higher level training cycles.

To become an oral hygienist, you will study subjects such as oral health epidemiology, examination and preventive techniques, orthodontics and health education. You will also develop skills in patient care, teamwork and the use of dental technology.

To enrol on the Higher National Diploma in Oral Hygiene, you must meet the academic requirements set for Higher Level vocational training programmes, such as holding a Baccalaureate qualification, a Vocational Training Diploma or one of the equivalent qualifications specified in current regulations. The curriculum for the Higher Technical Diploma in Oral Hygiene includes modules such as Reception and Logistics in the Dental Clinic, Study of the Oral Cavity, Examination of the Oral Cavity, Oral Health Interventions, General Pathophysiology, Epidemiology in Oral Health, Oral Health Education, Restorative Dentistry, Periodontology, Surgery and Implants, Prosthodontics and Orthodontics, First Aid, Inter-module Project and Work-based Learning (WBL).

Upon completion of the Advanced Diploma in Oral Hygiene, you will be able to work as a dental hygienist, a specialist dental hygiene technician or an oral health educator. You will also be able to carry out tasks relating to prevention, the promotion of oral health and providing support to dentists in various healthcare settings.

A dental hygienist may work in dental clinics, dental practices, oral health units, health centres and oral health education and prevention programmes.

The VET in Oral Hygiene lasts 2 years and is taught online, which allows you to combine your training with other activities. You will have live and recorded classes, digital resources and practical sessions on campus.

Yes. The programme leads to the official qualification of Higher-Level Technician in Oral Hygiene, a Higher-Level Vocational Training qualification recognised within the Spanish education system.

A private course provides specific training in certain subjects, whilst the Higher Technician in Oral Hygiene qualification is an official vocational training qualification that enables holders to practise the profession in accordance with current regulations.
