If you live outside Spain and you are interested in coming to study at a university that is committed to launching the professional career of all its students, we tell you everything you need to know and the documents you need to have in order depending on the country you come from.
You will need to present your certified academic transcript and other documents that will depend on where you have completed your education and the degree you want to study with us.
If you are living in a non-EU country, you will need to purchase a private health insurance policy with no co-payment to validate your student visa. It may be that there is a health agreement between your country and Spain; in such a situation, you would be granted access to medical services in a similar way to a Spanish resident. However, it is important to note that this agreement will only cover essential medical care and will only pay for emergency situations.
If you are a resident of the European Union, you will need to be in possession of a European Health Insurance Card valid for at least the duration of your stay in the UAX.
European citizens: For stays longer than 3 months it is compulsory by law to have the NIE.
Non-EU citizens: for stays of less than 6 months it is compulsory to have a NIE (this number will be included in the VISA). When the stay is longer than 6 months it is compulsory by law to have the TIE.
Management of NIE and TIE: Electronic office of the General Directorate of Police (procedures for foreigners). .
Non-EU students: It is compulsory to process the student visa for the whole mobility period before arrival. Otherwise, Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio will not be responsible for any inconvenience related to this matter. You will need a letter of invitation or Acceptance from UAX for your mobility.
1.- If you are not yet in Spain: At the Spanish Consulate or Embassy in your country of origin or country of legal residence, it is advisable that you go in person to the Spanish Consulate in your country of origin in order to obtain information about the necessary requirements for obtaining a student visa.
If you are already in Spain: At the Oficina de Extranjería, by appointment. You must be within a legal stay (e.g. tourist permit, which is 90 days) and, at the time of application, you must have at least 30 days of legal stay remaining.
Below you can find all the information about visa procedures for EU students and non-EU students. All exchange students (EU and non-EU students) for a period of more than 3 months must register with the immigration office on arrival, this procedure is compulsory. https://www.mptfp.gob.es/portal/delegaciones_gobierno/delegaciones/madrid/servicios/extranjeria.html
Madrid's location is privileged, being at a short distance from a large, high-altitude mountain range. The city receives fresh air from these mountain ranges, some of which have ski resorts open during the winter.
It is also characterised by an intense cultural and artistic activity, as well as a very active nightlife, where pubs, cafés, theatres and discotheques are open late into the night.
Madrid: a safe city
Madrid is one of the safest cities in Europe according to Eurostat, making our city one of the most interesting alternatives for international students.
