Higher-Level Technician in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory Science

Face-to-face dual training: 

Under Organic Law 3/2022, from the 2024–25 academic year onwards, a number of significant changes will be introduced to the vocational training system in Spain 

• All Vocational Training will adopt a dual approach, meaning that students will combine their learning between educational institutions and companies.
• The Workplace Training Module (FFE) will no longer exist as a separate component. Instead, work placements will be integrated directly into the modules of each training programme.
• This means that work placements will not take place exclusively at the end of the academic year, but will be spread throughout the training programme and will be geared towards achieving specific learning outcomes.

The new Vocational Training Act establishes two models of dual vocational training: the general model and the intensive model. The general model replaces the previous ‘classroom-based model’, and work placements will account for between 20–35% of training hours, depending on the type of vocational training. In the intensive model, companies will account for between 35–50% of the training time. All UAX Vocational Training Higher Level courses fall under the general model.

On the face-to-face Vocational Training course in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory Science, you will round off your formal training with compulsory work placements as part of the Workplace Training Module (FFE). During this period, you will be able to apply all the knowledge you have learnt in a real-world work setting. In addition, you will develop professional skills and gain first-hand experience of the processes that govern the sector’s working environment.

Our students will have the opportunity to undertake work placements in leading laboratories, companies and organisations, to gain professional experience and apply the knowledge acquired during their training.

You can access this Higher Level Training Cycle if:

• You are 18 years old or you turn 18 in the year in which the training course begins.
• You are over 16 years old and you are registered as a worker, you are a high-level sportsperson or you have an illness, physical difficulty or dependence that prevents you from attending the training cycle in person.

In addition, you must have at least one of the following academic qualifications:

• Baccalaureate (LOE or LOGSE).
• Specialist Technician or Higher Vocational Training Technician Degree.
• Intermediate Vocational Training Technician's Degree
• Training Cycle or Intermediate Degree
• University Degree
• COU or Pre-university Certificate
• Document that proves that you have passed the 2nd year of any modality of the experimental Baccalaureate.
• Certificate of successful completion of the entrance exams to higher level training cycles.

The Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory Technician is a healthcare professional specialised in the analysis of biological samples to support the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. They work in laboratories in hospitals, research centres and companies in the health sector, using advanced technology and following the highest quality protocols.

In this cycle you will learn to collect, analyse and manage biological samples, perform biochemical, microbiological, immunological and genetic studies, and interpret results to contribute to accurate diagnoses.

You will also be trained in the handling of laboratory equipment, quality control, materials management and report writing, all with a practical approach and adapted to the needs of today's health sector.

At UAX FP you can study the Higher Technician in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory in face-to-face mode, with dual training that combines classes at the university and internships in top-level companies and health institutions. This modality allows you to apply what you learn in real environments and gain professional experience from day one.

At the end of the cycle, you will be able to perform functions such as:

• Collecting and analysing biological samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.).
• Carrying out biochemical, microbiological, immunological and genetic tests.
• Interpretation and validation of analytical results
• Management and control of laboratory materials and equipment
• Preparation of reports and communication of results to health managers
• Application of quality and safety protocols in the laboratory.

As a Higher Technician in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory you will be able to work in:

• Clinical and hospital laboratories
• Biomedical research centres
• Analysis and quality control laboratories
• Pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies
• Toxicology and genetics laboratories
• Health product sales offices

Job placement is very high, with a 93% employability rate in less than six months after completing the cycle.
