The Pharmacy degree programme in Málaga is designed to meet the current needs of the pharmaceutical sector, combining a solid grounding in science and healthcare with innovative content geared towards new areas of professional development within the profession.
Through a practical and applied approach, you will acquire the skills needed to pursue a career in both community pharmacy and areas linked to the pharmaceutical industry, clinical research, healthcare management and business development.
Our educational model places the development of students’ skills at the heart of the learning process. Through practical experiences, applied projects and tackling real-world challenges, you will develop analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills, which are essential for addressing the current challenges facing the pharmaceutical profession.

Facilities
The Simulation Pharmacy allows students to practise in an environment that closely mirrors the professional reality of a pharmacy.
Using specialised pharmacy management software, you will learn processes relating to the dispensing of medicines, pharmaceutical care, stock control, order management and the resolution of practical case studies, developing both clinical and management skills from the very first years of your degree.
An anatomy laboratory equipped with anatomical models of all the organs and systems of the human body, an electrocardiograph, a spirometer, an audiometer, a podoscope, a X-ray viewer, a weighing scale and height rod, eye charts and a biofeedback system.
It is also equipped with a full range of audiovisual teaching aids, including a wealth of visual material relating to the morphology, structure and function of the human body and the stomatognathic system.
The University has laboratories for Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biological Analysis, Pharmacology and Microbiology.
These laboratories are equipped with technology used in real-world biomedical and pharmaceutical settings, including CO₂ incubators, microplate readers, UV-VIS spectrophotometers, optical, fluorescence and inverted microscopes, PCR systems, DNA and protein electrophoresis equipment, autoclaves, laminar flow cabinets and −80 °C ultra-low temperature freezers.
Furthermore, students work with advanced scientific equipment such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems, transilluminators and other tools used in research, analysis and pharmaceutical control laboratories, gaining practical experience in technologies found in industry and biomedical research.
This laboratory is equipped with the standard basic equipment for physics practicals, the main items being: wire bridges, oscilloscopes, sound level metres, teslameters, tables and beams, He-Ne lasers, microwave ovens, electromagnets, Coulomb balances, viscometers, spring pendulums, optical benches, spherometers, torsion pendulums, calorimeters, dilatation apparatus, and all the accessories required for carrying out laboratory practicals.
Separate areas have been designed: one for general chemistry, organic and inorganic synthesis, with an instrumental analysis room; and another focused on learning about industrial-scale processes and chemical technology. They are equipped with storage facilities, loading bays and a gas supply centre, as well as standard consumables, UV spectrophotometers, diode arrays, gas chromatographs, liquid chromatographs, rotary evaporators, vacuum pumps, drying ovens, muffle furnaces, pH meters, conductivity meters, meters with specific redox electrodes, fume cupboards with two workstations each, an infrared spectroscopy system, granulators, centrifugal evaporators, calorimeters, magnetic stirrers, melting point apparatuses, Mettler balances, Parr pumps, metering pumps, etc.
Practical experience is complemented by specialised resources for anatomy, histology and clinical simulation, including microtomes, histological sections, anatomical models, anthropometric equipment, and virtual reality and augmented reality tools for immersive practical sessions.
Thanks to these facilities, you will develop high-level experimental, clinical and professional skills, familiarising yourself from the very start of your degree with the technology used in pharmacies, hospitals, research laboratories and the pharmaceutical industry.
When studying pharmacy in Málaga, you’ll have the opportunity to undertake a supervised six-month ( 660-hour) work placement during your final year, choosing whichever pharmacy you prefer anywhere in Spain. We have agreements with over 300 pharmacies where you can carry out your work placement.

This connection with the professional world is reinforced through initiatives such as Congress Day, an event at which leading figures from the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields share their experience and introduce students to the various career paths available to graduates of the degree programme. Furthermore, throughout the degree programme, you will take part in seminars, workshops, field trips and activities led by practising professionals.

Research forms part of the educational experience at UAX Mare Nostrum. Our teaching staff are actively involved in various research groups and projects linked to fields of great relevance to pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences, such as microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, biotechnology and innovation in healthcare.
Furthermore, the University promotes new lines of research and research groups in which students can undertake academic projects and their final-year dissertations, gaining exposure to scientific methodology and the sector’s current challenges from an early stage.
Research activity is complemented by multidisciplinary innovation initiatives, such as 3D printing projects applied to the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields, which enable students to participate in the development of solutions with real-world applications in teaching, research and healthcare.
Among the research areas in which academic staff are involved, projects relating to the human microbiome and antimicrobial resistance stand out, such as those carried out by the MICRO-RES Group.
All those interested in studying for a degree in Malaga must take an entrance exam.
The tests last approximately one and a half hours and consist of the following:
Competence test: TCAP©- Test of Academic and Personal Competences. The competences of the candidate are evaluated through standardised and scientifically endorsed psycho-technical and personality tests with an estimated duration of 60 minutes.
Language test: English test for candidates with Spanish mother tongue and Spanish test for candidates with non-Spanish mother tongue. The estimated duration of the online test is 30 minutes.
Candidates with a non-Spanish mother tongue will be required to have a minimum level B1 of Spanish, regardless of the language certificates they present.

She holds a PhD in Microbiology and a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Seville, specialising in taxonomy, genomics and metagenomics, antimicrobial resistance and the study of the human microbiome. She has an outstanding scientific track record, having worked at institutions such as Georgia Tech (USA) and the Czech Academy of Sciences, where she has led and participated in international projects; her expertise is underpinned by numerous competitive grants, awards and more than 20 publications, which she brings to the classroom through innovative teaching methods.
A graduate in Pharmacy and a PhD candidate at UCM, with international research experience at Harvard Medical School. Specialising in nutrition, neuroscience and metabolic health, with publications in indexed scientific journals. Researcher in the UCM-VALORNUT group and science communicator. Coordinator of the Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy at UAX Mare Nostrum.
She holds a PhD in Chemical Sciences from the University of Granada, specialising in the structural biology of proteins associated with cancer and infectious diseases. She has over 15 years’ experience in international research and teaching at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she headed the Protein Engineering and Biophysics section; her first-rate scientific expertise, underpinned by more than 40 publications, is now being channelled into university teaching and clinical collaboration.
She holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Málaga, specialising in chemical analysis and quality control. She has extensive teaching experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors at various levels of education, teaches on the Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy at Alfonso X Mare Nostrum University and has conducted research into the optimisation of analytical methods, as reflected in publications in journals such as the *Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry*.
Holder of an international PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Málaga, specialising in bioinformatics, systems biology and precision medicine for genetic and rare diseases. Researcher in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, member of CIBERER and IBIMA-RARE, with research stays at University College London, the University of Westminster and the University of Barcelona. Author of 17 publications and recipient of the IBIMA-RARE and IBIMA-BIONAND awards, she combines research, teaching and public engagement in bioinformatics and biomedicine.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Literature (specialising in English) from the University of Málaga and a PGCE from the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom). She has extensive teaching experience at an international level, having served as Head of the Department of Modern Languages at various institutions in the United Kingdom and as a lecturer at the University of Sheffield. Author and co-author of teaching and assessment materials for publishers such as Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and Hodder Education, specialising in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.
She holds a PhD (with distinction) from the University of Málaga and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Granada, specialising in Artificial Intelligence. She has conducted research at UMALASERLAB and the CSIC on projects relating to space debris, gamma rays and gravitational waves, with publications in *Nature* and the UMA Award for Excellence in Research. She combines university teaching in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Engineering with experience in R&D, consultancy in AI and Big Data, and collaboration within the BOOTES Robotic Telescopes network.
PhD in Mathematics from the University of Malaga, where she also graduated, and later completed a Master's degree in Mathematical Engineering at the University Carlos III of Madrid and a Master's degree in Teacher Training at the UNED. She has taught in different undergraduate degrees at the University of Malaga and Carlos III University, and is the author of several teaching books and research papers on mathematics teaching. Her line of research focuses on the design and implementation of numerical methods for hyperbolic partial differential equations applied to geophysical fluids. She is currently coordinator of the Degrees in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and in Design and Development of Videogames at UAX Mare Nostrum.
Law graduate from the UNED and specialist in Extended Reality and Entrepreneurship from the Incyde Foundation, with more than 25 years of experience in cultural, educational and technological projects. Teacher, filmmaker and entrepreneur, he combines audiovisual innovation with the application of XR/AR in education, dissemination and marketing. Co-founder of the startup More than verso SL, selected in reference accelerators such as La Brújula XR and Fundación Unicaja-Málaga TechPark. Co-author of scientific articles on virtual reality and consumer behaviour, and speaker at conferences on emerging technologies and educational innovation.
