The assessment criteria for the standard examination period shall be as follows:

30% of the final mark:

• Completion of the practical work.

• Written tests related to the subject matter.

• Solving practical case studies in groups.

60% of the final mark:

• Final written theoretical and/or practical examination. Multiple-choice and/or essay-style questions.

10% of the final mark:

• The lecturer will assess the interest shown by the student; the level of participation in the various

scheduled activities and tasks; good behaviour (punctuality, courtesy towards the lecturer and

fellow students, willingness to learn, etc.); and respect for the opinions of other

Continuous Assessment

Students who follow the continuous assessment pathway will be assessed on the basis of the following components:

Final Exam – 60%

The final exam, scheduled on the official date published by the University, will consist of both multiple-choice questions and written essay questions. It is designed to assess students’ comprehensive understanding of the course content, their ability to synthesise key concepts, and their capacity to apply theoretical frameworks to practical situations.

Coursework and Participation – 40%

This component reflects the student’s engagement with the course throughout the semester and includes the following elements:

Class Participation (4%): Active involvement in lectures, discussions and in-class activities is essential for learning and will be marked accordingly.

Self-assessment Evaluations (6%): Each of the six units includes a short online self-assessment (1% per unit). These evaluations are intended to reinforce learning, encourage ongoing study and help students identify areas for improvement.

Mid-term Test (10%): A written test covering Units 1–3 will take place on 28 October (Villanueva campus) and 29 October (Chamberí campus). This test does not exempt students from studying this material for the final exam, but it provides an opportunity to consolidate what has been learnt during the first half of the course.

Group Assignment – Porter’s Five Forces (5%): Students will form groups of 2 to 6 members (self-organised) to analyse the competitive forces affecting a company of their choice. The assignment involves both an in-class presentation and a final written submission (deadline: 30 November).

Group Assignment – BCG Matrix (5%): Working in the same groups, students will prepare a BCG Matrix for a chosen company. This task also includes a class presentation and a written submission (deadline: 6 November).

Individual Assignment – Value Proposition Canvas (10%): Each student will independently analyse the Value Proposition Canvas of a company of their choice. This project enables a deeper understanding of how companies create and deliver value to customers. Final submission deadline: 23 December.

Alternative Assessment

Students who do not wish to participate in the continuous assessment system may opt to be assessed solely by the final exam, which will account for 100 per cent of their final mark. This exam will take place on the official date set by the University.

Without prejudice to any other requirements that may be specified in the relevant course syllabus, as a general rule, failure to attend more than 70 per cent of the course’s teaching activities—which require the student’s physical or virtual presence—will result in the loss of the right to continuous assessment during the standard examination period. In this case, the examination to be held during the official period set by the University will be the sole assessment criterion, with the weighting specified in the course syllabus.
