The Bachelor's Degree in Foundations of Architecture is the university education that provides the technical, creative and conceptual foundations necessary to work in the field of architecture and the design of spaces. It is a degree oriented towards understanding how buildings and urban environments are designed, planned and developed, combining creativity, technique and functional vision. This degree constitutes the academic basis necessary to subsequently continue with the professional qualification as an architect in Spain.
Career opportunities are wide-ranging and cover areas such as architecture studios, urban planning, space design, interior design, building renovation, project management, landscaping and technical consultancy. There are also opportunities in construction companies, public administrations, real estate development and companies specialising in urban design and planning. In addition, many graduates develop profiles linked to architectural visualisation, sustainability or innovation applied to the design of spaces.
The Degree in Fundamentals of Architecture provides the basic training, but in order to legally practice as an architect in Spain it is necessary to subsequently complete the qualifying Master's Degree in Architecture. In other words, the degree alone does not provide the professional qualification to sign architectural projects. However, it does offer a solid training that allows you to work in multiple areas related to design, construction and urban planning even before completing the professional qualification.
Yes, although the sector has evolved a lot in recent years. Today's architecture is increasingly linked to sustainability, urban rehabilitation, energy efficiency and the intelligent design of spaces. In addition, the growth of areas such as sustainable urban planning, digital design and the transformation of cities is creating new opportunities for architectural profiles with the ability to adapt and innovate. It is a particularly attractive profession for those seeking to combine creativity and technical vision.
It is a demanding career because it combines creativity, technical skills and a significant amount of practical work. It requires perseverance, organisation and dedication, especially in projects and deliveries. Many students emphasise that it requires not only technical knowledge, but also the ability to develop ideas, solve spatial problems and work in complex creative processes. Even so, those with a genuine interest in design and architecture often find it particularly stimulating.
You can work in architectural firms, construction companies, urban planning offices, interior design, real estate development or technical consultancy. There are also opportunities in architectural visualisation, digital modelling, building renovation and project management. Some graduates also focus their profile on areas related to urban design, sustainability or innovation applied to spaces and cities.
Salaries depend very much on experience, type of company and specialisation. A junior profile in architectural firms or companies in the sector usually starts between €22,000 and €30,000 gross per year. With experience, specialisation and access to projects of greater responsibility, salaries can increase significantly. Profiles linked to project management, urban planning or large international studios tend to have better economic conditions.
Yes, architecture and urban design are disciplines with a strong international projection. Many architects work in international studios, global urban projects or companies related to the construction and design of spaces. Countries with great urban and architectural development especially value profiles with technical training and creative sensitivity. In addition, the use of digital tools and global methodologies is increasingly facilitating international mobility in this sector.
It tends to be a particularly good fit for creative, observant people with an interest in the design of spaces and the urban environment. Organisational skills, visual thinking and a willingness to develop complex projects are also important. It is a career well suited to those who enjoy combining creativity, functionality and technical vision in projects that have a real impact on people and cities.
Yes, especially if you are interested in design, urban planning and the creation of spaces with social and functional impact. It is a degree with a very strong creative dimension, but also with real technical and professional application. It also offers multiple possibilities for specialisation and professional evolution, from traditional architecture to emerging areas such as sustainability, intelligent urban design or architectural digital visualisation.
