The UAX online Vocational Training course in Prosthetic Audiology is delivered entirely online and via distance learning, allowing you to access the course content, activities and learning resources from anywhere. The Advanced Vocational Qualification in Prosthetic Audiology is a two-year course. During this time, you will acquire the knowledge and skills required to carry out audiological assessments, fit hearing aids, make ear moulds and ear protectors, and pursue a career in the field of hearing health.
On the Higher National Diploma in Hearing Aid Fitting, you will learn to assess patients’ hearing ability, select and fit hearing aids, make ear moulds and ear protectors, and manage specialist audiology services. You will also develop knowledge relating to patient care, audiological technology, healthcare documentation and the management of hearing aid clinics.
The curriculum includes subjects such as Anatomical and Sensory Characteristics of Hearing, Acoustics and Principles of Noise Protection, Electronic Technology in Hearing Aids, Hearing and Verbal Communication, Fabrication of Moulds and Earplugs, Care for People with Hearing Loss, and Selection and Fitting of Hearing Aids, as well as the Prosthetic Audiology Project and Work-Based Learning (WBL).

No previous experience is required, although an interest in health, technology and caring for people is recommended.
The hearing aid specialist is the professional responsible for assessing users’ hearing ability, selecting and fitting hearing aids, and monitoring that they are working correctly. They are also involved in the production of customised ear moulds and ear protectors, provide advice on the use and maintenance of the devices, and help to promote hearing health.
An official vocational training course in Prosthetic Audiology leads to the qualification of Higher Technician in Prosthetic Audiology, which is officially recognised throughout the country.
